The Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Stephen Holroyd hosted a special Leeds 400 civic celebration and service at Leeds Minster on Sunday 12th July at 5.30pm. Special guest speakers included Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Keran Kaur Virdee MBE and Martin Hamilton of Leeds Civic Trust.
The Celebration included performances from us, the massed forces of Leeds Philharmonic Chorus and Leeds Festival Chorus, and Music House Gospel Choir.
We performed a movement from Symphony No. 14 by pioneering astronomer and musician William Herschel, which he wrote in Leeds in 1762. We also accompanied choral performances of Parry’s ‘I Was Glad’ and Handel’s ‘Hallelujah’ Chorus led by Simon Wright.
